I've been busy with the new place. Mainly spending money I don't have on things I don't really need. You know that story.
It's weird at the new place, so quiet. At the last house there was a crazy lady next door with six collies. They barked constantly and I could never sleep. It caused me some stress since I have sleeping issues in the first place. Now it's so quiet I am lay awake listening to the silence. I keep straining to hear things outside.
Weird.
I've started a few projects before I put a studio togehter. One is the restoration of an old barbers chair recovered from a junk dealer a few years back. It was in pieces contained in a large bucket. Much of the leather has become hard and the chrome has rusted off but the enamel is in pretty good shape. I spent the other day screwing it all back together to see what was needed to bring it back to life. Surprisingly it was pretty simple and parts slid into place despite the rust. The only thing that seems to be missing is the handle to make it recline and the headrest. The headrest may be lost amongst some other parts in my mothers garage. I am hopeful it will turn up with some digging. We shall see.
From the looks of the metal it may clean up pretty nice with some elbow grease. I am wondering if I want to have it nickel plated or attempt to plate it myself here at the school. I'll put some thought into that after I blast off some of the rust and see what shape it is in. The leather will do for now. The only real bad part is in the leg rest. Down the road I thought it would be hot to reupholster it with this thick black rubber material I found in Toronto.
All in good time.
I will keep you posted. |
