Clay Sculpture by Wendy Walgate as seen by evanrudemi

A few weeks back I stopped into Pewabic Pottery and took in the work of Wendy Walgate and Carrie Anne Parks.

The show is described as "work more related to the surrealist tradition of juxtaposition with sources in popular culture particularly relating to women and children, and one focusing on pictorial, albeit mysterious, narratives of domestic space either interior or exterior, or on fragmentary, evocations of relations between or among figures which exist in their own space, but in narrative relate."

Talk about fuckin artsy jargon.

Without the fancy explanation I find both artists work very intriguing. Wendy Walgates work touches on youth and the collecting of precious objects that invoke personal memories.

Carrie Anne Parks has created a series of sculptures dealing with relationships not just with other individuals but also with ones self. It's her style and subject I find the strongest of the two artists but both collections of work are very deep and strong.

That's my take anyway. It's art, everyone has a different interpretation. Mine just uses less syllables.
