So, this is what I look like after 9 days away from a razor and the internet. Coincidentlay I think it is what I will look like when I finally become homeless. Not much to worry about I guess.
I spent the last week at the family cottage on Lake Huron in Canada. After pride I drive over to the cottage and have a few friends up for the Canadian and US holiday. After 911 I also found that celebrating the 4th of July outside of the country just made odd sense. Recently the attack of amateurs with fireworks has grown and I'd rather not be around when the good people of our city burn the place down.
I had planned on staying up north till Monday night. Sunday I took a look at the faces of my guests and determined it was time to return home before they all turned on one another. On some level I was ready to come home as well. The time away was nice though. It always is. No phone, no internet, no TV...kinda. I do eat a lot more up there though so I am sure I have gained a few pounds.
I made a few journal entries over the past week. I took some pictures as well. Stuff will turn up as I recall things and get my footing back. Catch up if you wish.

Steve and Geoff arrived Saturday to spend the rest of the weekend with us. This rounds off a fine group of people. I jokingly make plans with Steve about creating Lazy Bear North. Hell if they can do it with Folsom why can't I create yet another bear event that serves my purposes.
I really just want to share something so simple.
We spent the night playing with fire and tripping on the darkened rocky beach. Beer is consumed easier with the smell of a campfire in the air and under a star lit sky.
If there is one thing I wish I could share with you all it is the uninterrupted night sky filled with tiny lights. When I was younger my sister and I would scope out the night sky and look for satellites drifting slowly in their orbit. My father would point out the constellations and planets. To this day I still cant pick out the major groupings of stars. I try to project myself back in time to when the constellations were first named. The brightest stars were named. They all look so bright to me. As far away as We are from the lights of the city I know my view is still obscured.
How much brighter did they glow back then? |

When is the last time you flew a kite?
On a whim I picked up a 5 dollar kite from the local hobby store. This inspired Adam and Jeremy to do so as well. Friday the weather was shifting to grey and cold and the wind picked up. I was inside when a giddy Jeremy ran into the cabin. He had set up his kite to fly on its own having tied it to a rock. The full length of his string had been let out.
"Hmmm....my Dragon kite doesn't look so intimidating when it's so far away." The three of us sat quietly on the beach tending to our plastic beasts. I am reminded of the kits my sister and father used to build. Strange box kites that I never did get to see fly.
Jeremy lost the grip on his kite later in the afternoon. The string became tangled in a nearby tree. For several hours it flew above the cottage and I waited for lighting from the coming storm to strike. Eventually it disappeared without a trace.
I have not thought about work in four days. |
