I just wanna be myself

Alice Cooper is stuck in my head. Not literally. I woke up with "Clones" playing in my brain and it's been cycling over and over all day. Dunno why. Maybe I am feeling a bit like 6 as of late.

I know you've heard the tune. Go ahead, listen to it. It's not scary Alice Cooper it's kinda Gary Numan-esque. (I'm sure the gays will turn it into a dance mix soon if they have not already.)

I remember my sister playing this when I was young. She had this fold out type turn table in her room. The speakers were attached to the side and could be removed. If you danced too hard the needle would skip. I think it's still in the basement some place.

I recall bits of her record collection, Alice Cooper, Kiss, ELO, Styx. I'd sneak into her room and look at the cover art. (Don't tell) ELO covers were always the most interesting. I loved that spaceship. If you looked close enough in the windows you could see the band members at the helm. Styx album covers were just weird.

On some level I kind of miss the larger scale vinyl albums. They had a lot more territory to be clever with. I can't say I remember much of the cover art for my CDs.

Musicification [Nov. 3rd, 2005|11:18 am]

Ok... I'll do this one also

The instructions are as follows....

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your Livejournal along with your seven songs.

I need to ask why 7? Why not like 5 or 10? 7?

Anyway, in no particular order...

1. 40 Years Back/Come - Röyksopp
(The first bit, the second part makes me sleepy.)

2. Take Ecstasy With Me - !!!
(All the fun of drug use without the hassle of finding a dealer.)

3. Nothings Impossible - Depeche Mode
(So up beat and peppy. This song makes me happy to live in this bright colorful world.)

4. Outlines - Clor
(This arrived to me via a mix one of you guys made. Thanks!)

5. Bit Rate Variations In B Flat (Girl) - Beck
(This was one of the free downloads from iTunes....I think. Well I got it somewhere on line anyway. It's remixed with groovy nintendo-esque vibes. I also dig the original edit.)

6. 8 Ball - Underworld
(Kinda nice to drive around late and night on the empty express way with this playing. Don't pick up any hookers though. They try to sing along and it ruins the mood.)

7. Dream a Little Dream of Me - The Mamas and the Papas
(Happy Anniversary Mike Allen. I miss you)

So there it is. Maybe there is other tunes I dig more but these spring to mind at the moment. Tagging is optional but this time, even though I say I never do, I will tag others. Bill/Bearwad, I want to know more about your taste and also tag you back for a previous tag. William/Tricolaola, you need to feel some LJ love and the unusual tracks I see listed in your journal intrigue me. I must know more. And how about you Mr. Brull/Broug? You always have something interesting on your status list.

Make my toast pop up [Jul. 22nd, 2005|11:23 am]

Maybe this defines what's wrong with my head.

Talking Heads - Love For Sale - True Stories

I was born in a house with the television always on
Guess I grew up too fast
And I forgot my name
We're in cities at night and we got time on our hands.
So leave the driving to us.
And it's the real thing.

And you're rolling
In the blender
With me.
And I can love you
Like a color
TV.

Now love is here
C'mon and try it
I got love for sale
Got love for sale
And now love is here
C'mon and try it
Got love for sale,
Got love for sale.

You can put your lipstick all over my designer jeans.
I'll be a video for you
If you turn my dial.
You can cash my check if you go down to the bank (Down at the bank)
You get two for one
For a limited time.

Push my button...
The toast pops up
Love and money
Gettin' all mixed up
And now love is here
C'mon and try it.
I got love for sale
Got love for sale

Love is here
C'mon and try it
I got love for sale
I got Love
Love
Love
Love
Love
Love
Love
Love

I secretly dance to this song when it comes on. I remember the video being a grand mix of commercialism and music. When I first heard the song that was really the first time I started understanding ones need to replace that which is missing in life with things commercial. Sometimes I need to be reminded of this.

Thank god I have my iPod® so I can listen to the song whenever I wish.

Emusiculated [Jun. 23rd, 2005|11:27 am]

When it comes to music as of late I am blind. I just have lost track of the world and it's audio content. I tend to live in the Industrial past. Now and then I stumble on new music, I'll pick up a CD on a whim but for the most part I have been relying on the pointers of fellow LJers.

Tony sent me off to audioscrobbler.com yesterday. It's really another form of LJ. It shows your listening habits, groups that share your taste....I'll tell you what, you go poke around the site and find out what it is really all about. It can be your adventure for the day.

I was reluctant to get involved. I think it's a marketing tool but they state that is not the case. Well, I created an account. I'll mess with it for a bit until I get the scary comments from you guys that the plug-in is sending all my data to the Collective Known As 'They'.

Ok, so now the Collective will know I listen to Toxic by Britney Spears every now and then....and now so will you.
