 Tile - Melissa Muir Sutherland
The weekend was excellent.
Saturday I made a trip out with concrete Mike, Greg and their two youngest kids to Ann Arbor. Our primary destination was a decorative tile show put on by Pewabic Pottery. The show featured a some close friends in the tile field as well as a few fellow grads from CCS. It was like a little reunion of sorts. It was pretty social with a lot of catching up.
I was giddy walking thought the exhibit. I love all the clay.
I was taken with the work of Melissa Muir Sutherhand. I enjoy her use of bold solid colors. The glaze is smooth and breaks nicely on her simple textures. There is a satiny quality I just want to lick. It was quite different than most of the other tile work usually seen at the show. Her work is very modern where many still follow traditional tile techniques and are quite architectural.
I had to pick up a piece on the spot. Once I got home I decided I needed more. I can't wait to hang it up.
She is working on her web site but visit and check out some of her other tiles. |
